Ancient and noble Spanish family, of ancient Roman origins, known as Bolaños or Bolaño, that has worldwide spread over the centuries, with main branches in the Americas. Legend has it that the progenitor of the family was the crusader knight Sancho Diaz who ardently defended Christianity from the siege of the Moors. Anyway, originally from the Kingdom of Galicia, more precisely from the province of Lugo, this noble family firstly spread to Asturias, Castile and Canary Islands. According to what has been handed down, this family belongs to the same lineage of the Rivadeneyra House and, since at least the early XVI century, its members were owners of the Torres manor house, in the mentioned province of Lugo. The branch that flourished in Asturias moved to Italy following the Spanish army with a Giuseppe (Navia, Oviedo, April 5, 1668 - Venice, January 20, 1732), son of Alvaro Bolaños y Moscoso
