A very ancient Lombard family, it belonged to the feudal agrarian nobility, whose progenitor found a Gian Matteo, a man of great piety and of proven military value, to whom, Francesco I Sforza, Duke of Milan, granted the manor of Sant'Angelo Lodigiano , in return for the sale of the castle of Pavia, where Gian Matteo had previously been Castellano and Prefect of Arms.
