Questa antica ed illustre famiglia venne a Venezia da Bologna. Nel 1379 era divisa in sedici rami, ridotti a soli quattro nel 1824. Nel 1351 Francesco Bon sostenne varie missioni diplomatiche. Antonio sulla fine del secolo XV fu luogotenente veneto in Cipro e, quale provveditore d'armata, prese Alessio, città dell'Albania, e la ridusse in potere dei Veneziani. Nicolò morì nel 1645 sopra le mura della Canea, combattendo contro i turchi a difesa della città. Ottaviano nel 1551 fu ambasciatore in Francia a re Luigi XIII, in Spagna ed a Costantinopoli. Ebbe il privilegio di aggiungere nello stemma i gigli di Francia. Nel 1611 fu provveditore generale in terraferma con ampi poteri. Alvise nel 1511 fu ambasciatore al re d'Ungheria e nel 1524 a Papa Clemente VII. Fu scrittore.
