This ancient and illustrious family came to Venice from Bologna. In 1379 it was divided into sixteen branches, reduced to just four in 1824. In 1351 Francesco Bon supported various diplomatic missions. Antonio towards the end of the fifteenth century was a Venetian lieutenant in Cyprus and, as superintendent of the army, took Alessio, a city in Albania, and reduced it to the power of the Venetians. Nicolò died in 1645 above the walls of Chania, fighting against the Turks to defend the city. Octavian in 1551 was ambassador in France to King Louis XIII, in Spain and in Constantinople. He had the privilege of adding the lilies of France to his coat of arms. In 1611 he was general administrator on the mainland with wide powers. Alvise in 1511 was ambassador to the king of Hungary and in 1524 to Pope Clement VII. He was a writer. Francesco Maria
