Esta antiga e ilustre família veio de Bolonha para Veneza. Em 1379 foi dividida em dezasseis sucursais, reduzidas a apenas quatro em 1824. Em 1351 Francesco Bon apoiou várias missões diplomáticas. Antonio no final do século XV era um tenente veneziano em Chipre e, como superintendente do exército, tomou Alessio, uma cidade na Albânia, e a reduziu ao poder dos venezianos. Nicolò morreu em 1645 sobre as muralhas de Chania, lutando contra os turcos para defender a cidade. Otaviano em 1551 foi embaixador na França junto ao rei Luís XIII, na Espanha e em Constantinopla. Ele teve o privilégio de adicionar os lírios da França ao seu brasão. Em 1611 era administrador geral no continente com amplos poderes.
