Loda non puoco Mario Equicola Scrittor delle cose di Mantua, la famiglia Buonaccolti, over Buonacolsi, e Buonacosi, e la sua antica nobiltà. Mantua fù dopo il regimento Imperiale governata da Teobaldo Conte di Canosa, il quale fù eletto da Ottore secondo Imp. nel governo gli seguì il figlio Bonifatio, che si morì senza haver lasciato prole; perilche governò la moglie Beatrice, ch'era prudente donna. Dopo la morte di Beatrice s'occupò il regimento la Contessa Matilda sorella del predetto Bonifatio, il quale gli fù tolto dall'Imperadore Enrico tezo, e restò Mantua in libertà sotto l'Imperio nel 1120. Puoco poi, e quasi il medesmo anno un Cavaliero chiamato Sardello, disceso de' Visconti, usando liberalità, ed amorevolezza co' popoli, fù da quelli ricevuto per Signore, e governò fin al 1174. Dopo la sua morte restò Mantua per lo spatio di 100. annni sotto il Regimento annuale. Nel 1275. per la gran rivolutioni successe
