Famille très ancienne et noble, originaire du territoire émilien, le fondateur serait un Abundius qui vécut au XIIe siècle à Bologne mais il n'existe aucun document d'archives pour le prouver, ses membres se sont répandus en Toscane à partir du XVIe siècle et ensuite à différentes régions d'Italie, et ils furent accueillis dans les bureaux importants de la ville où ils vivaient. Cette famille comprend des personnes d'une grande vertu, parmi lesquelles on note Clemente Bondi, religieux jésuite, poète et traducteur, accueilli à la cour de Ferdinand de Habsbourg-Lorraine en 1795. Les Bondi d'Émilie ayant résidence dans la ville de Forlì furent décorés du titre de patriciens. Les Bondi de Bologne furent décorés du titre de Nobili.
