Familia antigua, originaria de Scala, se ramificó en Amalfi, Ravello, Lettere, Nápoles, donde fue agregada al Seggio di Nido y Messina. El Aldimari, "familias nobles", Nápoles 1691, habla extensamente de la familia Bonito en la pág. 27; y Carlo De Lellis en "Discursos a las familias nobles", vol. III, Nápoles 1691, dice que la familia Bonito da Scala se mudó a Amalfi, donde en el pueblo de Butone, fundó una iglesia dedicada a S. Matteo; y traer de vuelta dos inscripciones en él existentes; uno: en la cornisa de la gran tribuna: "Devotione Colutii De Bonito viri senatoris anno 963"; y el otro en el piso, en el altar principal: "Nobilis Ursus de Bonito ordenó a Patritius hic requescit año 998". En 1271 Oddo era señor de Bonito y S. Barbato; en 1408 Ludovico, cardenal de S. Chiesa con el título de Santa María en Tratevere. Recibido en la Orden
