Nella seconda metà del XIV sec. le famiglie signorili di antica nobiltà tortonese vollero riunirsi, analogamente a quanto già in atto in altre città, in gruppi denomiunati "Casati" con lo scopo di amministrare con un corpo struttrale ed efficiente detto "Decurionato" i vari assessorati dal Comune e far fronte alle contingenze di quei tempi. I primi casati istituiti furono sette ed a quello di B.vennero ascritte in tempi successivi le famiglie Crozza, Montacuto, Carnevale, Mandrini,Viola, Frascarolo-Calvino-Bajardi. Pochissimo, diremo anzi quasi nulla, si sa della famiglia B. scomparsa lasciando a memoria della sua presenzain Tortona il nome del Casato di aggregazione; presenza che, secondo quanto informano le Carte Capi., dovrebbe risalire all'XIsecolo. il 4 maggio 1099 un Grimaldo del fu Giovanni B. e sua moglie Berta, donano al monastero di S. Marziano di Tortona terreni in Sale ed altri luoghi de Tortonese; era quindi una famiglia agiata, forse preminente ma,
