La famiglia nobile e antica che i genealogisti fanno provenire da un nobile portoghese del XII secolo di nome Rodrigo Annes, nato a Santarém, diventato famoso in Francia al servizio del re Filippo Augusto II che lo mandò a difendere la città di Bourges dagli eretici. Lì fu così eroicamente che fu chiamato O Cavaleiro de Bourges, un nome che in Portogallo, al quale in seguito tornò a Torre de Moncorvo, fu contribuito a de Borges.
