Famiglia assai antica e nobile, originaria del territorio della Toscana, detta anche dè Borgesi, dal Borgo o del Borgo; nel corso dei secoli famiglie omonime della stessa si trasferirono in varie regioni d'Italia, donde ne acquisirono la nobiltà e vi furono accolti nelle importanti cariche della città dove ebbero dimora. Da Bacciomeo, signore di S. Marco presso Pisa, che nell'822 fece edificare in quel luogo di suo dominio un torrione a guisa di fortezza, sopra un residuo del quale si conserva un'iscrizione a memoria del fatto, posta non si sa quando, ma che prova la remotissima antichità della famiglia. Nel 1174 Rosso di Teclo era capitano di una galera della Repubblica Pisana; e nel 1188 Berengario, della stessa famiglia, trattò e concluse la pace tra Pisa e Genova.
