Nobilissima ed antica famiglia fiorentina, con residenza nei gonfaloni Santa Croce e Bue, la quale ha goduto, per ben quattordici volte, il Priorato e, per tre volte, il Gonfalonierato della Repubblica. Tal casato, inoltre, può vantare di aver dato i natali, il giorno 29 ott. 1515, al celebre Don Vincenzo Maria, di Domenico, di Piero, e di Mattea, di Agnolo Capponi, filologo e storico italiano, attivo a Firenze alla corte di Cosimo I de' Medici e di suo figlio Francesco I. Un ramo della famiglia, nei primi del '700, passò in Castiglion Fiorentino. A questo ramo apparteneva Luigi, di Antonio, che nel 1829 ottenne l'iscrizione alla nobiltà fiorentina, per decreto del 20 aprile.
