Familia antigua, llamada Boschetto o Boschetti, de la cual a algunos les gustaría Manfredo, conde de Milán, quien murió en 8997 e indicado en un viejo árbol genealógico como progenitor. Sin embargo, la primera noticia segura es sobre un Gherardo De B., presente en un placito en poder de Enrique V, en 1116. De allí nació Gherardo Boschetto, que fue cónsul de Módena en los años 1171, 1174 y 1178. Hijo de Boschetto. otro Gherardo, también cónsul de Módena en 1200. Los miembros de esta familia siempre participaron activamente en el regimiento de su ciudad y se distinguieron en las luchas crueles y sangrientas de las facciones. Pertenecían a la facción Guelph llamada Aigoni, de la cual, con los Rangoni, eran los principales. En la Edad Media, tres obispos dieron su tierra natal: Alberto (1234-1264), también venerado como Beato, Filippo (1287) y Buonadomo (1311) a varias ciudades magistradas italianas como
