Antica famiglia bolognese, che accrebbe il proprio patrimonio, grazie alla mercatura ed a cospicue eredità. Si imparentò con varie nobili case della città ed ebbe il sepolcro gentilizio nella cappella di S. Antonio, in S. Francesco. Da Filippo, vivente nel secolo XVI, discende Paris Maria, n.1644, che, nel 1713, acquistò l'abitazione del defunto senatore Foscarari, edificio ingrandito poscia dai B. e da loro tenuto fino a questi ultimi tempi. Francesco Maria, di Paris Maria, insieme col fratello Filippo, ottenne il 22 dicembre 1730, dal senato di Bologna, l'aggregazione all'ordine dei nobili, e ricoprì la carica di anziano del Comune, più volte dal 1732 al 1743. Valerio, di Filippo, ripetutamente anziano dal 2° bimestre dell'anno 1740, morì nel 1776, lasciando erede il figlio naturale Francesco, che da papa Pio VI, fu il 9 agosto legittimato, e con successivo breve del 30 settembre 1778 creato marchese.
