Antica e nobile famiglia italiana, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in tutto il mondo. Si trattava di una famiglia di mercanti che, per aver reso molti servigi all'Ordine di Malta, riceveva in cambio favori e distinzioni privilegiate. Antichi diplomi del Duca di Savoia riportano "essendo anticamente nobili discendenti da nobili di Milano (...) con antichi privilegi perduti nell'assedio di Rodi, dove erano stati presi dal compianto monsignor Tommaso Bosio e da fra Antonio Bosio ". In ogni caso questa famiglia è originaria di Milano ma in tempi antichissimi si trasferì a Chivasso. Dal Bosio di Chivasso ebbe origine sia la linea torinese che quella cuneese, cioè quella di Santo Stefano Belbo a cui infatti è attribuito lo stesso stemma dei Bosio di Chivasso.
