Famiglia lombarda, di chiara ed antica virtù, con residenza della città di Lodi, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, anteriore al XII secolo, dovrebbe rinvenirsi nel nome medioevale germanico "Brachus", probabilmente appartenuto ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. Di parte ghibellina, il casato diede ben due decurioni alla patria. Tra i membri che, inoltre, maggiormente, lo illustrarono, non possiamo non ricordare: Pietro, piacentino, Dottor di Ragion Canonica, Auditore in Roma del Sacro Palazzo e Cappellano d'Innocenzo VI, autore di numerose opere letterarie e vivente nel 1380; Gio. Pietro, piacentino, dottore "in utroque jure", laureatosi all'Università di Bologna, vivente nel 1555; Andrea, Medico di professione, autore di una dottissima orazione, fiorito in Genova, nel 1580; Da parte ghibellina, diede due decurioni alla patria.
