Antiga e nobre família alemã, de clara e ancestral virtude, que se difundiu mundialmente, ao longo dos séculos. A origem deste sobrenome deve ser procurada em uma forma contraída do nome próprio "Abraham" mas a origem do mesmo pode ser também topográfica a partir da residência por uma área de pradaria coberta pelo arbusto conhecido como "vassoura". De acordo com o que foi transmitido, esta família pertenceu à antiga nobreza dos "Uradel", termo cunhado apenas nos tempos modernos, em referência a famílias nobres cuja linhagem ancestral pode ser rastreada até antes da Idade Média. Contrasta com "Briefadel" (lit. "carta de nobreza"), títulos criados por cartas patentes do rei, moda que, influenciada pela prática francesa, foi introduzida na Alemanha sob o imperador Carlos IV.
