Famiglia originaria di Amalfi, dove se ne ha memoria sia dai più antichi tempi. Si diramò in molte città dell'Italia meridionale, e fra le altre a Napoli, ove venne aggregata ai seggi di Capuana, Montagna e Porto, ed a Sorrento a quello di Porta. Ebbe in ogni tempo uomini preclari nelle armi, nel sacerdozio, nell'amministrazione della cosa pubblica. Roberto fu arcivescovo di Sorrento nel 1300; Pietro, familiare di re Ladislao e giustiziere di Calabria; Francesco, gran cancelliere del regno sotto Giovanna II; Giov. Francesco, giureconsulto, consigliere di Carlo V; altro Giov. Francesco, maresciallo di campo sotto re Filippo di Spagna; Filippo cardinale e nunzio apostolico in Germania, ed altri ancora. Fu ricevuta più volte nell'ordine di Malta sin dal 1647, fu insignita di numerose alte onorificenze cavalleresche, e nel 1804 fu ascritta al Reg. P. Ch. del Regno. Avendo ereditario dalla famiglia Naccarella Brancaccio il titolo di marchese di Mirabella
