Antica ed assai nobile famiglia lombarda, con residenza nella città di Milano, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di autorevoli genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel vocabolo gotico "brakia" (= lotta), tramite un soprannome. In ogni modo, la famiglia Brasca risulta divisa in due rami: il primo, che si estinse nel 1764, diede alla patria Matroniano e Tommaso che furono dei XII di Provvisione nel XV e XVI secolo; Santo che fondò il luogo pio del Dio Padre ed Erasmo celebre consigliere di Carlo V, ambasciatore a molte Corti, prefetto di Trieste e cavaliere aurato. Il secondo ebbe parecchi decurioni, dottori di Collegio ed un giudice delle strade ed aggiunse per eredità al proprio i cognomi Visconti e Daverio. Il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza, inoltre, riporta la blasonatura di questa famiglia, nei volumi del suo "Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili
