Die ursprünglich aus Frankreich stammende Familie erhielt ihren Namen von der Lordschaft Brayda, der sie gehörte. Er ging nach Piemont und baute dort das Schloss von Brayda. Seit der Ankunft der Normannen gehört es zum Königreich Neapel. Der Zweig der Markgrafen von Carise starb in der Familie Tortora aus, die B zu ihrem Nachnamen hinzufügte. In der Familie B starb einer der Zweige der Familie Aldemorisco im Jahr 1500 aus. Sie genoss Adel in Frankreich und im Piemont, in Alba, Foggia, Giovinazzo und Molfetta.
