A Sassari i Brea si dedicarono al commercio raggiungendo una discreta posizione economica. Nel 1710 ottennero il cavalierato ereditario e la nobiltà con un Giovanni. I suoi discendenti ricopersero spesso le magistrature comunali di Sassari; la famiglia si estinse alla fine del sec. XVIII. Altro ramo. Famiglia di antica e nobile tradizione, originaria del Piemonte. Il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza riporta la blasonatura di questa famiglia nei volumi del suo Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane. Altra famiglia alzò per arma. D'azzurro, a tre fascie d'argento, accompagnate da due stelle d'oro, una in capo, l'altra in punta
