Antica famiglia bresciana, di chiara e provata nobiltà, originariamente detta Bettignoli, la quale, primieramente, mutò il cognome in Bettignoli da Brescia ed infine in "da Bressa", "Bressa" o, più comunemente, "Bressan". Tal casato, narra il Bonifacio, onoratamente fiorì a Brescia, come da molti privilegi a lei concessi da principi. Trasferitasi nel 1326 a Treviso, ben presto si rese benemerita per le sue bellissime prerogative, per i molti Cavalieri ed i Personaggi onoratissimi. Perciò fu compresa tra le famiglie nobili trevisane. La famiglia, poi, si divise in due distinti rami, l'uno denominato Bettignoli da Brescia e l'altro semplicemente B., i quali, però, levarono la stessa arme, ovvero: D'oro, alla fascia di verde, caricata da una colomba d'argento, tra due rose di rosso. Ricchi di dovizia, i B. affidarono ai Lombardo la costruzione, a S. Pancrazio di Treviso, di un grandioso palazzo, che sembrava l'albergo di un principe; con interno cortile, scrisse
