Antique chevalerie possessionnée dans le Mezenc, mentionnée depuis Pons chevalier coeseigneur du Cheylard et de Rochebonne, marié avec Artuade de Châteauneuf-en-Boutières, lesquels transigèrent le II des calendes de septembre 1078, avec leur frère et beau-frère, Guillaume de Châteauneuf, chevalier. Deux chanoines-comtes de Brioude: Etienne et Pierre de Rochebonne (1112-1196). Pons seigneur de Brion (1250), vendit à l'évêque du Puy le fief et château de Beaujeu près Tence. Il était fils de Gérenton de Chapteuil, qui rendit hommage en 1220 à cause de sa femme, de ses seigneuries de Brion et de la Mastre. Pons fit de même en 1244 et fut la tige d'une seconde maison de Brion.
