Detti anche Ruini, oriundi da Corte nel Bergamasco, si stabilirono a Reggio Emilia dove godettero nobiltà fino al 1250, si trasferirono successivamente in Bologna nel 1511 col famoso giureconsulto Carlo, figlio di Corradino, il quale vi condusse il proprio figlio giovinetto Antonio, che già prima però fu professore nella Università di Ferrara, Padova e Pisa dove si era laureato nel 1484. Carlo fu chiamato a Bologna per leggere Giurisprudenza in quella Università o, come si diceva allora, Studio Bolognese e nella nuova sede conseguì ragguardevoli ricchezze. Antonio fu degli Anziani ed ebbe il figlio Carlo che nel 1584 vestì la toga senatoria ed i suoi figli ebbero il titolo di Conte ed occuparono le cariche di governo in Bologna, ma la Casata successivamente vi godette nobiltà fregiata anche del titolo marchionale ed ebbe pure notai, architetti, governatori di lugo di Romagna, pittori, veterinari, nunzi apostolici e vescovi di Polonia e
