Baroni antichissimi nel Regno sono i Brunelli. Nella numeratione de Feudatiarij sotto il Ré Guglielmo II vien numerato Riccardo e per un feudo, che su quel di Calui e riconoscea dal Conte di Fundi, dovendo un solo uomo d'armi, n'osserisce due in aiuto di Terra Santa. Venuto il Regno in dominio di Ré Carlo il vecchio, fu da quel Ré a Guglielmo Brunello conceduto Gagliano, San Benedetto in Terra d'Otranto: onde vien nominato col Conte di Brenna, e di Lecce, e col Conte di Vadimonte, e con alri molti Cavalieri Francesi, che avevano Baronie in quella Provincia. fu viceré dell'Abruzzo l'anno 1275 e Cavaliere familiare di Ré Carlo, da cui vien lodato, ch'avesse fatto con due galee, non só che impresa importante in compagnia di Iacopo Bussone, e Pascale Guiarino l'anno 1278.
