Oriunda secondo alcuni di Francia, e secondo altri di Lizzano, si stabilì in Pistoia nel secolo XV. Per desiderio di Lorenzeo il Magnifico dei Medici fu ammessa alla magistratura nel 1475.Quando si estinse l'antica famiglia pistoiese Buonvassalli,i brunozzi assunsero il diritto e la prerogativa del cerimoniale per il solenne ingresso del nuovo Vescovo, spettava ora a questa famiglia dargli il possesso del palazzo episcopale, consegnandogliene le chiavi e accompagnandolo fino alla sala grande. Dette alla patria due priori e due gonfalonieri. Di questa famiglia non si hanno più notizie. Fu costume delle più antiche famiglie, le quali dopo la caduta del Romano Imperio, in quella inondatione de' Barbari, havendo i loro cognomi, sicome gli studi, e altre cose belle smarrito e restati solo con semplici nomi, trarre di nuovo i loro cognomi, e il loro casato da' nomi proprii paterni, e de' maggiori.
