Ancient and illustrious marquis family whose members were enfeoffed and had count title, were Lords of Leonissa, since the XII century, in the Provinces of the Principality, Abruzzo and Molise, part of the Kingdom of Naples. We have memory of it in the "Anjou Reconstruction - Notamente ex Registris Caroli II, Roberti et Caroli Ducis Calabriae", Vol. IV, Pars II, referred to 1200, in the "Registri della Cancelleria Angioina", Vol. XV, years 1266-1277 and in the "Aragonese Sources", Series II, Vol. III, which mention the "Castro", to which the House gave its name since 1200; Goffredo, castellan of the Castro di Lucera dei Saraceni; Jacob; Count Giorgio, Benedetto B. de Leonissa and others. The "Manuscripts" of the cited texts are kept in the State Archives of Naples - Diplomatic-Political Section.
