Très ancienne famille sicilienne. An Ottavio était sénateur de Catane dans les années 1623-24, 1629-30, 1640-41, 1645-46 ; un Girolamo fut sénateur de Palerme dans les années 1639-40, 1644-45, 1649-50, 1658-59 ; a Mario, baron de Burgio et Favarotta, obtint avec privilège le 11 avril 24 octobre 1658, le titre de marquis de Bifara : Francesco Vincenzo, fils du premier, épousa Raffaella Scammacca, princesse héritière d'Alcara et baronne de Murgo, Arbiato et chargeur de Agnone, dont les titres et fiefs furent investis les 21 octobre et 18 novembre 1730 par son fils Mario, qui, avec privilège du 9 novembre 1708 au 30 septembre 1709, avait obtenu le titre de duc de Casalmonaco et, avec privilèges du 17 février au 17 Avril 1725 ceux du prince de Casalmonaco et du duc d'Alcara ou Lercara.
