Famiglia originata da Mauro d'A. conte della Repubblica Amalfitana nell'anno 900. Fu detta pure d'Alanea o d'Alagna. Si trova feudataria sotto Carlo I d'Angiò. Questa famiglia deve la sua grandezza ad Alfonso d'Aragona; il quale invaghissi perdutamente di Lucrezia d'A., bellissima donna, tanto da voler divorziare la regina Maria sua moglie, per sposarla, il che gli fu negato dal Pontefice Pio II. Lucrezia fu poi amata dal Conte Giovanni Piccinino, dopo la morte di Re Alfonso. Il ramo primogenito si estinse in casa Milano. Il secondo si estinse in quattro femmine. Ha goduto nobiltà nelle città di Napoli al seggio di Nido: Amalfi, Bari, Messina ed in Terra d'Otranto. Si veggono monumenti di essa in Napoli nella Chiesa di s. Domenico. In Almalfi nel Duomo. In Roma nella Chiesa della Minerva. Possedè numerose Baronie tra le quali per brevità si citano solamente quelle di Baragiano, Borgenza e Braiano. Nel 1456
