Il nome di questa famiglia è ricordata nel libro d'oro della città di Treviso fin dal XII secolo. Nel secolo XIV si stabilì in Toscana, e nel 1334 Giovanni fu podestà di Firenze nel 1345 Oderico capitano del popolo. Al tempo delle fazioni i membri della famiglia esularono da Firenze, un ramo si riparò a Sarzana e quindi in Corsica alla fine del XV. La famiglia assurse per opera del I° console, Napoleone ai supremi fastigi, ottenendo quel Premio "che rea follia sperar". Tralasciando di parlare del ramo imperiale di Francia ci occupiamo del ramo di Roma proveniente da Luciano, fratello di Napoleone I, che godè dei titoli di principe di Canino, Di Musignano e della Santa Sede (2 settembre 1814); titoli riconosciuti dalla congregazione Araldica capitolina, il 17 gennaio 1854. La famiglia è oggi iscritta nell'Elenco Ufficiale con i titoli di nobile dei principi, pers; F.P.R. nobile romano, pers.;
