Antica e nobile famiglia aversana di Napoli, dice Mugnos, proveniente da quella Altomare per una Lucia Falconi, agnominata Caccabo, stante avere avuto in dote la villa Caccabo e come dicesi in siciliano Caccamu, appartenente ad un cavaliere francese Gisberto Caccabo; essendo stato ad un certo Brandimo Altomare in matrimonio congiunta. I di lei figli presero adunque lo stesso cognome e così di seguito. Da una lettera poi della regina Giovanni di Napoli a Pietro Caccabo Altomare rilevasi essere stato questi un gentiluomo di qualità nella corte de' re di Napoli. Un Girolamo ebbe da re Alfonso nel 1462 la castellania di Patti; un Bartolo stanziò in Palermo, e tra gli altri figli contò un Alberto vescovo di Lipari. Altro Bartolo fu barone di s. Pietro.
