Grande famiglia de hospitio in Asti, di nobiltà originaria e generosa. Ebbe nobiltà in Genova ed in Milano, col vicariato imperiale e diritto di battere moneta in Rocca d'Arazzo. Prese il nome dal castello distrutto di Cacayrano, su quel di Asti. Conta oltre venti cavalieri di Malta, dal 1450 al 1730; quattro cavalieri dell'Annunziata, dal 1713 al 1835, un numero notevolissimo di cavalieri mauriziani. Ebbe due palazzi in Asti ed uno più antico (secolo XV) distrutto. Le prime generazioni sono incerte; ma già nel 1218 Guglielmo I, era console di Genova e il nipote di suo figlio, Guglielmo II, figurava signore di Castagnole, Neive e Rocca d'Arazzo nel 1260. Il feudo di Bricherasio entrava in famiglia già a mezzo il secolo XIV per acquisto fatto dai fratelli Franceschino e Giorgio dal conte di Savoia per il prezzo di 10 mila fiorini d'oro. Franceschino è il capostipite comune
