Insigne vetusta casata canavesana quella dei Castellamonte ritenuta agnatizia dei San Martino dei Valperga, smembratasi in numerosi rami con numerosi feudi e con personaggi di primissimo valore, quale i due Castellamonte, Carlo Amedeo, architetti di fama duratura. I membri della famiglia, furono ritenuti dei S. Martino, perché un tempo dimoravano in Aglié e si dissero anche d'Agliè; ma l'ipotesi non regge alla critica. Le prime memorie risalgono al secolo XIV. Degni di menzione, nei tempi moderni, il cav. Michele (nato a Lessolo, 16 settembre 1819; deceduto a Torino, 10 marzo 1868), segretario generale di grazia e giustizia (1855-1861), procuratore generale a Brescia (1862), a Palermo (1863), a Torino (1864) con titolo di primo presidente, senatore del regno (8 ottobre 1865); e il conte Felice (nato a Lessolo il 25 maggio 1824 e deceduto nell'agosto 1887), suo fratello maggiore, colonnello dei carabinieri con varie campagne di guerra e azioni di valore
