Famiglia originaria di Grecia, passata nel regno di Napoli, a quel che ritengono alcuni scrittori nel XIII secolo da Caló Giovanni che fu chiama nobilis vir, il quale venne Ambasciatore per l'Imperatore Emmanuello Commesso di Costantinopolio al Re Carlo I d'Angió, e nel 1298 fu eletto dal Re Carlo II per rivecere la mostra del Baroni del Regno. I discendenti di lui si dissero Caló Giovanni e poi semplicemente Caló. Ebbe possessi feudali nel territorio di Bitonto. Stabilitasi a Bari intorno al 1592, venne nel 1716 aggregata a quella nobiltà, ed aggiunse al proprio il cognome Carducci per parentela contratta con questa famiglia. Fu ricevuta per giustizia nell'ordine di Malta e nel 1805 ascritta al Reg. P. Ch. del regno. E' iscritta nell'Elenco nobiliare ufficiale italiano nella persona di: Carlo, di Saverio. Fratello: Luigi. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata.
