Antica famiglia messinese detta Calabro o Calbrò che diede alla patria senatori dell'ordine civico, fra' quali Vincenzo nel 1648, 1656, 1659 e 1664; Giuseppe nel 1666 e 1669; altro Giuseppe nel 1714. Domenico fu deputato di sanità nella peste di Messina del 1743 e console del mare nel 1750, come conferma il Galluppi nelle sue opere: Stato presente della nobiltà messinese (1881), stampato in Milano dal Bernardoni nel 1881; Nobiliario della città di Messina, stampato in Napoli nel 1878; L'Armerista Italiano, stampato in Milano nel 1872. Un'altra famiglia Calabro fiorisce in Provenza (Francia) ed innalza la medesima arme e questo ci conferma la propagazione internazionale del casato.
