Veramente questa famiglia sarebbe Mavarelli Druda perché l'attuale rappresentante, Nobile Giuseppe Calai, non è altro che il Nobile Giuseppe Mavarelli Druda, anzi il primogenito del nonno materno, Nobile Enrico Calai o Callai di Gualdo Tadino, in data 15 gennaio 1871 e convalidato con Regio Decreto del I dicembre 1922, assunse il solo cognome Calai e l'arma di questa nobilissima famiglia. Per notizie e armi delle nobili famiglie Mavarelli e Mavarelli Druda vedi Vol. IV, pag. 502. La famiglia è originaria di Francia e credesi abbia assunto il cognome da Calais, città di sua provenienza. Passò in Italia nel secolo XVI a mezzo di capitani di ventura. Si stabilì prima in Piemonte e poi a Gualdo Tadino nella quale città fu ascritta al Patriziato.
