Família toscana antiga e muito nobre, com residência na cidade de Florença, de virtude clara e ancestral, que se espalhou ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália e da Europa, com assentamentos particulares em solo espanhol e francês. A origem dessa cognominação pode ser encontrada no cajado medieval "Calandro", que por sua vez deriva do "calandrius", um mítico pássaro medieval mencionado em Deuteronômio, que teria a capacidade de absorver as fontes de doenças dos fluidos malignos, trazendo saúde para o homem que o trouxe perto de seu rosto. A família Calandri, no desenrolar dos lustres, sempre conseguiu produzir uma série de homens que tornaram seu nome famoso, em empregos públicos, profissões liberais e eclesiásticas e no serviço militar. Entre eles, sem elevar o valor dos omitidos, estão: Filippo Calandri (... - 1469), um famoso matemático florentino; Tommaso, jurista, florescendo em Florença em 1501; Alessandro Maria, doutor de ambas
