Ancient and illustrious Apulian family, which, to say the least of some historians, would descend from the noble Trentino family Galasso, who was invested with the title and a branch whose branch passed to Puglia, enjoying nobility in Bitonto. However, to say the least of other genealogists, the Calasso family, was probably decorated with the knighthood, following the participation, under the Aragonese banners, characterized by courage and virtue, of a Pietro Calasso, of Brindisi, in the war of Otranto, of 1481, against the Ottomans. But, on the other hand, the family, always, managed to distinguish itself, thanks to the elevated characters, to which it gave birth. Among these, we remember: Paul of Brindisi, among the illustrious men who were sent to represent King Alfonso, at the coronation of Emperor Frederick of Germany; Michele and Giacomo, protomedici at the Neapolitan court, living in 1542; Silvestro, distinguished in the defense of Malta
