One of the oldest Vicenza families. In 1190 the podestà Tebaldo de 'tebaldi lived in the house of Gado Caldogno, and the major council for the creation of the consuls was also assembled there. Also in 1194 a council was held in the same house, and Villanello Caldogno was elected consul. The Emperor Frederick created Calderino count palatino in the Diet of Constance, and confirmed the donation of the fortress of Caldogno; later he granted him the noble coat of arms as a reward for having saved the imperial insignia in the famous battle of Milan. In 1330 Marco and Alberto were created by the Emperor Ludovico with all their descendants, Palatine accounts and golden knights, with the confirmation of the Caldogno castle with a mere and mixed empire.
