Si vuole che sia originaria di Pisa. Godette nobiltà in Messina e in Caltanissetta. Pare che sia appartenuta a questa famiglia una Smeralda, che prese il velo nel monastero di S. Maria di Basicò di Messina col nome di Eustochia ed è stata con questo nome annoverata dalla Chiesa tra i beati. Un Andreotta e un Francesco Maria furono iscritti nella mastra nobile di Messina 1588, 1595, 1598, 1600; un Filippo Neri acquistò il tenimento di terre chiamato Bigini e ne ottenne l'infeudazione nel settembre 1780; Placido Calafati e Rosso figlio del precedente, ebbe investitura di Bigini a 18 dicembre 1798; un Giovanni, di Andrea con r. r. del 14 novembre 1846 ottenne riconoscimento del titolo di barone di Canalotti, titolo che con Decreto Ministeriale 10 agosto 1880 venne riconosciuto in persona di Pasquale, di Vincenzo, che è padre di Vincenzo e Cammarata.
