Antica ed illustre casata dell'Isola d'Ischia, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del Nuovo Mondo. Tradizione vuole che essa abbia origine germanica e che, così come i Calisesi, discenda dai Calisius di Boemia, la cui nobiltà in patria fu riconfermata in ultimo il 19 dicembre 1693. In ogni modo, i Calise risultano presenti nel napoletano già nella seconda metà del XVI secolo con il pedagogo e rettore Alberto Calisius, o Calise. D'altronde questa famiglia, nel susseguirsi delle epoche e sino ai giorni nostri, è sempre riuscita a distinguersi per l'elevatezza dei personaggi a cui ha dato i natali. Dai nostri archivi: Johannes Calisius, teologo assai dotto, fiorente sul calare del XVI secolo; Cesare Calise (Forio, 1560 circa - 1640 circa), pittore; Tommaso Calise, dottore in l'una e l'altra legge, fiorente in Napoli nel 1710; D. D'azzurro, alla divisa inclinata in banda d'oro, sormontata da un gatto corrente al naturale, accompagnata in capo da cinque stelle (8) poste in orlo, ed in punta da un sinistrocherio uscente impungante una rosa al naturale. Scudo a goccia, la cornice ornata di due cherubini.

Blasone della famiglia ricostruito da uno stemma in pietra posto sulla cappella gentilizia Calise Piro in Lacco Ameno. Note: tinture e metalli non sono ben definiti sullo stemma originale, si riconosce solo l'azzurro, gli altri sono stati ricostruiti.
