Di questa famiglia non ci perviene che il nome di un Giovanni Callegra, uomo filantropo e pio, il quale comecchè uno dei fondatori della nobile compagnia dello Spirito Santo nel 1560, volle, con testamento del 1585, lasciare alla stessa tutti i suoi beni, per farne legati di beneficenza. Armasi giusta il Villabianca che rileva le armi dalla lapide di un sepolcro di tal famiglia nella Chiesa di S. Giovanni de' Greci. Altra famiglia al dir di Mugnos, si trapiantò in Sicilia sotto Carlo d'Angiò, negli ultimi anni del secolo XIII, stabilendo la sua dimora in Catania, ed un Marco e un Francesco furono investiti del feudo di Milifindi. Tuttavia, la presenza del motto, nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere
