Il suo progenitore fù Guido, virtuoso gentil'huomo di Caltagirone, e Secretario dell'Imperador Federico II, à chi egli, per le sue rare qualità, fù molto caro, e n'ottenne in sodisfattione de' serviggi alcuni feudi, e molt'uffici, non puoco lucrosi, e di dignità nell'Imperial Monarchia, per i quali egli fra poco tempo pervenne ricchissimo, e della medesma guisa lasciò i suoi figli i suoi figli Perotto, e Giovanni. Dal Perotto ne nacqcuero Gualtiero, e Guido. Gualtiero fù uno de' principali Baroni del suo tempo, e de' quattro Baroni, che furono capo della congiura del Vespro Siciliano contra Francesi, che poscia dal Rè Pietro primo n'acquistò l'ufficio di Gran Cancelliero del Regno, la Signoria di Giarratana, ed altri feudi, benche poi gli perdè nella rubbellione, ch'ei fece contra il medesmo Rè. Procreò costui à Perotto, e Guido, che fù padre di Giovanni, il quale dal Rè Federico II fù promosso nell'ufficio di Pretore
