Este sobrenome teve sua sede na cidade de Ancona, localizada no que antes era chamado de Marca de Ancona, na Itália, próximo ao mar Adriático. No início do século XIV, um membro desta família, estando doente, mudou-se para a ilha de Malta para recuperar a saúde. Aí casou, e dele provêm os vários ramos desta família que se espalharam pela já referida ilha de Malta e passaram à ilha de Gozo ou Gozzo, logo à primeira, e depois a Valência. Lunas C. e Pedro C., ambos padres, floresceram nos anos de 1436 e 1459, respectivamente. O doutor Pablo C., em 1783, era tesoureiro da cidade de Malta e traduziu um antigo manuscrito, que hoje se encontra na biblioteca pública. Padre Rafael C. foi um virtuoso religioso, que morreu em cheiro de santidade. Pouco depois, apareceu a outro religioso da sua Ordem, trazendo na cabeça este lema: "Quia dilexit Justitiam invenit

En campo de gules, una cabría de plata, acompañada de un lunel, contornado de lo mismo, puesto en el cantón superior, de tres estrellas, también de plata, puestas en el cantón siniestro, y de un camello de oro en punta. Sobre este escudo aparece el lema: "Quia dilexit Justitiam invenit Misericordiam", que, como ya hemos dicho, orlaba la cabeza del padre Rafael C. en su aparición.
