Família antiga e muito ilustre, que ocupava um lugar notável na nobreza rural do estado feudal de Chur, no cantão de Grisões. As primeiras notícias, relacionadas à existência dessa família, já podem ser encontradas no século XIII. De fato, em um instrumento datado de 1271, parece que o Egeno Knight von Caminada e seus dois filhos Giovanni e Nicola venderam alguns fundos ao hospital de S. Pietro, perto de Septimer. De outros documentos publicados por Von Salis, descobrimos que, em 1384, Ulrico von Caminada obteve a investidura do feudo de Zschorschen, em Tinzen, do bispo Hartmann, vigário imperial de Chur, e que, em 1400, o mesmo bispo confirmou à família: arma nobre, consistindo de um carneiro branco em um campo vermelho; brasão de armas que ainda pode ser visto pintado no cofre do grande hall de entrada daquele bispado, juntamente com os das outras nobres famílias dos Grisões.
