Antica famiglia, di chiara e provata nobiltà. Per aver concorso, infatti, alla fabbrica del nuovo teatro di Volterra, l'ingegnere Luigi, di Salvatore Gustavo e e fratello di Sofia, discendente da antica famiglia di quella città e imparentato per moglie con la famiglia patrizia Del Bava Arrighi, fu insignito della nobiltà volterrana con rescritto 9 settembre 1832. A tal nobil casato, appartenne la Villa di Scopicci, situata a circa 10 km di Volterra, come ancora risulta attestato dallo stemma in pietra, che campeggia sul portone principale. La famiglia alzò per arma. D'azzurro, alla campana al naturale sormontata da quattro gigli d'oro ordinati fra i cinque (o sei) pendenti di un lambello di rosso. Altro ramo. Antica e nobile famiglia modenese, di cui si ha memoria fin dal XIII secolo. Tal casato si distinse sempre per gli illustri membri, a cui diede i natali.
