Da alcuni autori si è voluto sostenere che la famiglia sia diversa e tale distinzione si è voluta conservare in occasione del riconoscimento del titolo di marchese alla linea di Brolo con l'attribuzione di uno stemma differente da quello riconosciuto al ramo di Trabia e da quello sempre appartenuto alla famiglia. Secondo noi si tratta di unica fam. Senza tener conto che la diversa dizione del cognome si trova nei documenti per indicare lo stesso individuo; senza dar troppo peso all'autorità del Villabianca, che, parlando della famiglia scrive: "Questo albero però Trabia si mantiene ai giorni nostri sempre più vegeto di quel che fu in sua origine di frutti singolari e prelibati, che non è quello di Brolo, che sta quasi secco tarlato dagli anni, con tutte le radici di essa pianta che attacchino una coll'altra" e continua mettendo il ramo di Trabia come una diramazione dei baroni di Longi;
