Familia antigua, llamada Candia, de Candia o Decandia, originaria de Torre del Greco, se estableció en Alghero, para la pesca de coral, en la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. En 1779, un Serafino, un comerciante, que sin embargo se llama "patricio de Torre del Greco", obtuvo el título de caballero hereditario y nobleza. Su hijo Stefano era un valiente administrador general y experto, trasladó a la familia a Cagliari a principios del siglo XIX. Uno de los hijos de Stefano fue el famoso tenor conocido como Mario, los otros continuaron las tradiciones militares de la familia. Se incluye la nota de los señores feudales, Nobles y Caballeros, compilada por el R. Prefecto de Alghero y enviada, en 1822, a la Secretaría de Estado y Guerra en el Virrey de Cerdeña, con motivo de la asunción del rey Carlo Felice al trono.
