Famille très ancienne et illustre qui serait passée de la ville de Cannizzo (Espagne) en Sicile, à l'époque du roi Pierre d'Aragon. Il a joui de la noblesse à Palerme, Messine et Vizzini. Il possédait de nombreuses querelles, dont Bidani et Nucifora, Nadore, Passaneto, Rigilifi, Terrasi et Cavaleri.
