Famiglia assai antica ed illustre che si crede essere passata dalla città di Cannizzo (Spagna) in Sicilia, al tempo di re Pietro d'Aragona. Godette nobiltà in Palermo, in Messina e in Vizzini. Possedette molti feudi, tra i quali Bidani, e Nucifora, Nadore, Passaneto, Rigilifi, Terrasi e Cavaleri. Vantò anche alcuni letterati, elogiati dal Mongitore. un Blasco fu proconservatore in Vizzini (1590); un Mario, barone di Nadore, fu maestro notaro del tribunale del R. Patrimonio (1594), conservatore del regno (1605), ministro della nobile compagnia della Carità in Palermo (1612), reggente del supremo consiglio d'Italia (1615); un Niccolò è ascritto alla mastra nobile di Messina (1596); un Baldassarre fu giudice della corte pretoriana di Palermo (1623), del tribunale della gran corte (1625); un Francesco fu senatore di Palermo negli anni 1662, 1667, 1671; un dottor Mariano e un dottor Paolo del fu Giuseppe sono annotati nella mastra nobile di Messina (1798-1807); un
